The KMS Grouper Fish Farm is located in two locations,
the first being the hatchery facilities and grow-out operations located
on the coastal area in Tarahan, approximately 10 kilometers south of Bandar
Lampung, the provincial capital of Lampung Province in South Sumatera,
Indonesia. Additional grow-out facilities are found on Condong Island
(pronounced Chondong), located on a 20-hectare, pristine island about
five kilometers off the coast of Tarahan.

The locations for the KMS Grouper Fish Farm were chosen for their
clean, still waters, as grouper flourishes in calm waters. Condong
Island is extremely suitable for aquaculture as it is located in a
remote area. At the Tarahan facility, deep clean seawater is brought
to the hatchery via a 100-meter pipe and is biologically filtered
non-stop as the quality of water is critical for grouper farming to
avoid disease, predators, and to be free of influence from environmental
changes. |
Feeding
of our grouper is of utmost concern. Wild Grouper broodstock are fed with
fresh fish, squid, and vitamins. Grouper larvae are fed with vitamins,
zooplankton (such as copepods, rotifer, brine shrimp), and other foods
imported from Japan. As the larvae grow, they progress to consuming fresh
fish, pelleted food, and vitamins. Genetic engineering techniques or hormones
are not used whatsoever. All hatchery and net cages are supplied from
our own broodstock and private hatchery. We manage the entire process
through harvest. The feeding of the fish is done to ensure that it does
not disrupt or contaminate the environment and the feed is free from any
artificial additives which might contaminate the environment.
Better Than its Own Natural Environment
Every
effort is taken to ensure the environment in the KMS Grouper Fish Farm
replicates the natural environment of the grouper existing in the waters
of Indonesia. Fish farming is an appropriate measure to ensure the long-term
future of the grouper; it can be sustained while simultaneously meeting
the increasing international demand for the fish, while improving the
quality to meet International standards. Traditional fishing methods not
only deplete stocks of the target species, but also kill many other species
of fish, and can devastate coral reefs. The cleaning of the underground
grower cages and other facilities are done naturally without the use of
chemicals which risk damage to the natural habitat. Because mature grouper
are kept in net grower cages, harvesting can be done simply through netting
with no cruelty to the fish or damage to the environment. Company employees,
processes, and procedures are closely monitored so that proper environmental
protection of the surrounding area is ensured.
KMS Grouper Fish Farm maintains a strong environmental commitment.
